Ann Paciello Obituary

Ann Paciello of West Chester, Pa., died Monday, Jan. 31, at her home in the Hershey's Mill community. She was 92 years old. Before moving to Hershey's Mill, she had lived in Devon, Pa., for almost 50 years. Ann was born on Jan. 16, 1919, in Bridgeport, Pa., to the late John Rogan (Giovanni Racano) and Teresina Terpolillo. Known as Mom-Mom to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ann was a loving and devoted family matriarch. She and her late husband, Joseph A. Paciello, loved to entertain; their Devon home was a treasured gathering place for their large extended family and many friends. Ann's love of family and friends was matched by her passion for cooking, especially the native cuisine of Italy. She had the gift of putting together meals at a moment's notice. One of the crown jewels of her repertoire was manicotti with sauce made with tomatoes gathered and canned from South Jersey-all homemade by her loving hand. She was an inspiration in the kitchen and always ready to pass along the inherited gifts of Italian cooking. Fresh vegetables were an important ingredient of these meals, and Ann took special joy in regularly driving to Amish farms to purchase the finest cabbages, cauliflower and more for her signature dishes. These excursions continued into her 91st year; by then she seemed to know almost every farm, Amish family and back road in Lancaster County. Ann also enjoyed a life-long love of music. As a girl she played the organ at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Bridgeport. Ann said Louis DeSimone, later to become a Bishop in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, was an altar boy at Our Lady and would wink at her as he walked past at the conclusion of the Mass. They remained friends throughout her life. For many years she sang in the choir at St. Monica's Church in Berwyn. Ann and her husband were ardent travelers and made many trips to Italy with family. Ann took pleasure in telling stories from their travels, such as being stranded in a snowstorm at a small inn in the Italian Alps, and riding the tramway across the alps from Courmayeur in Italy to Chamonix in France. Ann's door was always open. Until the moment of her death, her home was filled with visiting family and cherished friends. She will be missed by all who knew her and shared her laughter, love and of course, her delicious cooking. Mrs. Paciello is survived by 3 daughters: Dana (Tom) Davis of Washington, DC Tilghman Island, MD; Johnna (Jeffrey) Craig of Westport, CT; Joann (Herbert) Crane of Venice, Fl and Taos, NM; brother, Domenic "Buddy" (Virginia) Rogan of Bridgeport, PA; 5 grandchildren: Dr. Thomas (Megan) Davis, Joelle (David) Wiese, Nicole (Brian) Stanton, Danielle Hummer, and Gabrielle (Matt) Noll; 6 great-grandchildren: Nicholas Owen, Owen Patrick, Anya Veronica Stanton; Ryan Joseph Allison Gabrielle Hummer; and Greer Swift Davis. Also dear friends, Dr. Gregory Narzikul of Devon, her family doctor, and his wife Therese. The family will recieve relatives and friends on Monday, Feb. 7, 2011 from 10-10:50 am at SS Peter Paul Church, 1325 Boot Rd., West Chester, PA. with Memorial Mass to follow at 11 AM.
