Carl R. Bates, Jr., 86, of Norristown passed away peacefully on Friday, November 29, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 18, 1938 in Norristown he was the son of the late Carl & Anna (Fosco) Bates, and the loving husband of the late Barbara Bates (Sambrick).
Mr. Bates served his country proudly by enlisting in the United States Navy in 1959 until he was honorably discharged in 1961. He would later go on to work for many years as a baker for Wonder Bread until his retirement. In his spare time Mr. Bates was an avid bowler and competed in many local leagues. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, shuffleboard, darts, and bocce whenever he had the opportunity. But most of all Mr. Bates cherished the time he was able to spend with his family cooking Sunday dinner. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and a dear friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him and he will be missed by many.
Mr. Bates is survived by his three loving children, Stephen (Christine) Bates, Karen Bates, and Carl (Maria) Bates; One brother, Robert Bates; Six grandchildren, Anthony (Lisa) Bates, Stephanie Bates, Stacy Bates, Nick Bates, Rachel Bates, and Tiffany (Bryant) Doner; He is also survived by nine great grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and devoted companion Peggy Silks
In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Mr. Bates was preceded in death by his siblings, Ronald Bates, David Bates, and Joyce Griffin.
Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing for Mr. Bates on Tuesday December 10, 2024 from 9:00AM - 11:00AM at the St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 2007 New Hope St. Norristown, PA 19401. His funeral mass will follow the viewing at 11:00AM at the church. Burial and military honors will take place in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery, East Norriton.
