Conni-Anne Hodgkins, aged 90, of Lineville, Alabama, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at noon. Conni-Anne was born on July 24, 1934, to Hugh and Anna Hunter, who had emigrated from Northern Ireland a few years prior (now deceased), in Philadelphia, PA. She was predeceased by her husband, David H. Hodgkins, and her brother, Hugh M. Hunter, of Warminster, PA.
Conni-Anne is survived by her daughter, ConnieLynne(Guy) Bradstreet of Lineville, AL, her son, David J. (Eunice) Hodgkins of Borden/Carlton, Prince Edward, Canada. Grandchildren Brianna Yandell, Kayla Lynne (Tim) Davidson, Kevin (Albena) Hodgkins, and great-grandchildren Jessie (Jessica-Lynne), David, Jasmyn, Brennen and McKenzie.
At the age of ten, Conni-Anne was invited to be a soloist at the Presbyterian Church she attended. Conni-Anne was a beautiful pianist and studied vocal at the Wurlitzer Company of Music in Philadelphia. At the age of 13, friends of the family from Northern Ireland invited her family to Gospel Meetings held by Herbert Dobson and William Warke in Bryn Mawr, PA. Exiting the meeting one night, Mr. Dobson asked her to read John 3 when she got home that evening. Arriving home, she asked to be excused from having tea, and went straight to her room and started to read. She stopped at verse 16, reading it over and over. The words “whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” It dawned on her that whosoever meant her, and it was that moment that she accepted Christ as her personal Savior, realizing that the Lord Jesus had paid the price for her at Calvary.
She was 16 years old when she met David from Manchester, CT, while attending a Church Bible Conference in Haddon Heights, NJ. A few weeks later, with a group of friends, traveled to CT for a Sunday School event. At a get-together one evening, the hostess asked someone to run to the store to get some milk, and David offered and asked Conni-Anne to go with him. She would tell this story often, as on the way to the store, David stopped the car and asked her two questions. One was, when is your birthday (they shared the same birthdate, one year apart), and the second question was, would you tell me how you came to Christ. That was the beginning of their courtship.
Conni-Anne graduated from high school in 1951 and was hired as the Executive Secretary to the Legal Counsel for Wyeth Laboratories in Philadelphia and Radnor, PA. She was the youngest person to ever hold that position.
On April 28, 1956, Conni-Anne and David were married and rented a small apartment in Manchester, CT, while building their first home in Coventry. A couple of years later, they moved back to Manchester. Throughout her life, she was known for her hospitality and kindness to anyone who entered their home, wherever they lived.
They resided in Charlottetown, Prince Edward for a time in the 1960’s, moving back to CT in 1968. In 1989, a new position for David had them relocating to Modesto, CA where they resided for several years until moving to Houston, TX. In 2003, they relocated to the western suburbs of Philadelphia. In 2023, Conni-Anne went to reside at Pittsboro Christian Village in North Carolina, until recently moving to Lineville, Alabama to be near her daughter and son-in-law.
Besides entertaining more people than could ever be counted, she was well-known for her three-layer cakes layered with raspberry jam and the most delicious frosting. At church functions, everyone wanted a piece of her cake.
Conni-Anne loved music, singing, and traveling. Northern Ireland and Sanibel Island, Florida, were some of her favorite places. She loved antique shops, doing needlework, crocheting, baking cakes, decorating, and was an avid Bible student, completing many Moody Bible Institute courses over the years. It has been said that her hospitality was to a standard that Better Homes and Gardens could not emulate. She will be greatly missed by us all.
