Dante F Volpe

Dante F Volpe, 78, of Plymouth Meeting, PA died on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Lankenau Hospital after a short illness. Born October 11, 1931 in Norristown, PA, he was the husband of Rosalie (DiRenzo) and son of the late Carlo and Rachael (Boccia) Volpe. Mr. Volpe was involved in the transportation industry, having owned Volpe Express, Inc. trucking company, the business his father started in 1922 until his retirement in the early 1970's. The business continues today, in the fourth generation of family ownership and operation. He attended Valley Forge Military Academy, class of 1949, attended Temple Univ. school of medicine until his service in the army during the Korean War. Also a member of the following organizations: Holy Saviour Church, Holy Saviour Club, East Norriton Lions, Catholic War Veterans Post #1182, Order Sons of Italy LAM-Valley Forge Lodge #1776, San Salvatore Society, MARC, and Americans of Italian Heritage. He was a former member of Cedarbrook CC, and past president of the Phila. chapter of PA Motor Trucks Assn. He was honored by the following organizations: the Regional Assn. of Campania, and receiving humanitarian awards from Italia International and the Filitalia International Assns., and the Distinguished Award of the Boy Scouts of America. In addition, he was a major fund raiser for The Pathway School in West Norriton. In addition to his wife, Mr. Volpe is survived by two children, Karen M. at home, and Dante F. (Maribeth)Volpe, Sr., of Blue Bell and their two children Laura and Dante F. (Kelly), Jr.; and great-grandson Dante; siblings: Erminia (Dr. Harry) Venezia, of Fr. Washington; Beatrice Mackin, of Norristown; Allegra (John) Giustozzi, of W. Norriton; Rachael (Durrell) Leister, of Plymouth Meeting; and Carlo I. (Gail) Volpe, of Emmaus. He was preceded in death by a brother Virgilio and brother in law Patrick Mackin, Sr. The family will recieve relatives and friends on Thursday, October 14, 2010 from 5 - 8 PM & Friday, October 15, 2010 from 9 - 10:30 AM at Holy Saviour Church, 407 E. Main St., Ntn., PA. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 AM Friday. Entombment St. Patrick's Mausoleum, DeKalb Pike, E Norriton., PA. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Lankenau Hospital Foundation, designating the Heart Fund, c/o Lankenau Hospital Dev. Office, Suite 50, 100 E. Lancaster Ave., Wynnewood, PA 19096, and or Holy Saviour Church at the above address.
