Dorothy Bender (Leeson), 84, of Plymouth Meeting died peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Lankenau Medical Center on August 15th, 2024. Born March 9, 1940, in Norristown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Lena (Monastero) and Thomas Leeson.
Dorothy met the love of her life, John Bender, when she was young and was blessed to spend 55 wonderful years with him before his passing. She was a faithful and longtime member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Norristown, and later at St. James’ in Collegeville. She retired from her position as a lab assistant at Merck in 1993, and during her retirement volunteered at the Wissahickon Public Library and with the Colonial School District reading program. She was an avid reader, a world traveler, and loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by three devoted daughters, Joy Cross (Raymond) of Plymouth Meeting, Ruth Bender of Plymouth Meeting, and Gail Tamburino of King of Prussia; five grandchildren, Samantha and Raymond Cross, and Nicholas, John, and Angelina Tamburino; one great-grandchild, Gabrielle Cross; and sister, Lois Lecher (Leeson).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Leeson, and her loving husband, John W. Bender.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, September 7th, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Caramenico Funeral Home, Norristown, PA. Her Memorial Service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. Burial of her cremains will be held privately at a later date in St. John’s Episcopal Churchyard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
