Frances “Fran” DiGiacomo Obituary

Frances “Fran” DiGiacomo, 90, of Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, December 18, 2023. Born on May 9, 1933, in Norristown, Pennsylvania, to the late Michele and Rosa (Diliberto) Mandracchia of Sciacca, Sicily. Fran was fortunate and blessed to have eight siblings and was the youngest sibling to five older brothers and three sisters.

On January 30, 1954, Fran married her sweetheart Rudolph “Rudy” DiGiacomo and enjoyed close to seventy (70) years of marriage.  They had four children: Roseanne Gagliano, Michael (Leslie) DiGiacomo, Charlene (Carl) Wendler and Rudolph (Jorge) DiGiacomo, Jr.

Fran lived at her home “Twin Peaks” in Plymouth Meeting for sixty-three (63) years where many annual family events were hosted. Every year, Fran would host the Christmas Eve Feast of the Seven Fishes and Feast of Madonna del Soccorso (MSS Feast). Most importantly, the DiGiacomo house regularly hosted Sunday dinner where any family member or friend could show up and enjoy Fran’s homemade cooking. Fran loved the Philadelphia Phillies baseball team and would never miss a game. Hall of Fame Phillies announcer Harry Kalas was even a fan of her cooking. The smell of Fran’s sauce – with Harry’s voice on TV – was the perfect combination many of us will never forget growing up at the DiGiacomo residence.

Fran was also known as “Mommom” to seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mommom was one of a kind, with a no non-sense personality, who always made us laugh. She warmed our hearts with her life lessons, card playing and dedication to prayer. Fran is survived by her grandchildren: Anthony (Lauren) Gagliano III, Michael (Chelsea) Gagliano, Francesca (John) Costello, Anthony “TJ” (Stepfanie) Melle, Christopher (Christine) DiGiacomo, Michael DiGiacomo, Jr., and Catherine (Carlos) Calderon and her great-grandchildren, Liliana, Johnny, Emilia, Ciana, Anthony, Marina, Carlos, Graziella and Isabella.

Fran was the last surviving sibling and was a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her siblings, Josephine (Charles)Tornetta, Frank (Martha) Mandrack, Mary (Salvatore) Santangelo, Samuel (Rose) Mandrack, Lillian (Thomas) Ragusa, Charles (Charlotte) Mandrachia, Simons (Laura) Mandracchia and Philip (Delores) Mandrack.

For most of us, Fran was one of the last surviving links to America’s Greatest Generation who experienced The Great Depression and World War II. Like many proud Italian American immigrant families, she supported her brothers as they served their country in World War II in the European and Pacific theaters.

Fran was a dedicated parishioner of the Holy Saviour Parish in Norristown for her entire life. Family and friends are invited to attend the calling time for Frances from 9:00AM-10:00AM on Friday, December 22, 2023 at the Holy Saviour Church, 407 E. Main St., Norristown PA 19401.
