James J LaSorda

James J. LaSorda, age 87, passed on to eternal life on Friday, February 20, 2009. At the time of his passing, Mr. LaSorda was a resident of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, Blair County, Pennsylvania. A Norristown native, he was the husband of the late Rose (Nemeth); son of Marion (Tinaglia) and Guiseppe LaSorda. Mr. LaSorda was building inspector and zoning officer for the borough of Norristown for over 20 years. His great love of Norristown prompted him to serve as councilman for twelve years and run for mayor twice. His career also included employment at the L & H Sporting Goods store; that experience later inspired him to open LaSorda's Sporting Goods on E. Main St., Norristown. He returned to employment with the borough in his later years when he enjoyed his part-time job as a school crossing guard at the intersection of Brown and Markley Sts. Also, Jim was a longtime member and past president of the Greater Norristown AMBUCS. Jim's love of life was exhibited with great vitality and enthusiasm in many ways; he was quick to embrace and show he cared for his children, grandchildren, family and friends; filling a room with his presence. Survivors include three sons: twins Dennis (Sharon) LaSorda, of Lower Gwynedd; Terry (Aura Rose) LaSorda, of Norristown; and Joseph (Andrea) LaSorda, of Skippack. Grandchildren: Madison, Michael, Paul, Mark, Michelle, Kelsea, and Grant. Also, Mr. LaSorda's nephew, Angelo 'Tank' and his wife, Rose Ann Nicola, held a special and devoted bond with Jim throughout his life. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. LaSorda is preceded in death by a son Phillip (July 2008) and brothers, Charles 'Babe' and Dominic 'Chic' LaSorda, and sister, Rose Tomaselli. Visitation hours are Wednesday, February 25, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and Thursday, February 26, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., Caramenico Funeral Home, Main & Walnut Sts., Norristown. A funeral Mass will be said on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, DeKalb & Chestnut Sts., Norristown. Interment will be at St. Patrick's cemetery, DeKalb Pike, E. Norriton Township. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, PO Box 319, Arnold Hall - Center 2, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648, in memory of Jim LaSorda.
