John DiMino Obituary

Obit for: John DiMino John J. DiMino, 88, of Norristown passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2011, at Montgomery Hospital Hospice. Born March 10, 1923 in Norristown, PA, he was the son of the late Vivian (Lauro) and Carl DiMino, and husband of Gloria (Beatrice) DiMino. A Graduate of Norristown High School, Class of 1940, where he was a member of the baseball and basketball teams. He also pitched in the Whitemarsh Valley and Norristown City Leagues; was a graduate of the Univ. of PA Wharton School of Accounts and Finance. He retired from Superior Tube Co, as a supervisor of the payroll, cost accounting and computer department. He was also the treasurer of PESCO heating co.; member of Holy Saviour Church, Men of Malvern, Catholic War Veterans Post 1182, VFW post. Delaware Valley Chapter of the Battle of the Bulge, where he was given the honor of placing a wreath at the grave of the unknown soldier at the Arlington National Cemetery. A technical sgt. in the 13th Machine Records unit (mobile) VIII corps. Landed in Utah Beach in the invasion of Normandy. His unit had IBM computers in trailers maintaining personnel records of 100, 000 combat men processing battle casualties. He received 5 Campaign Battle Stars: Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. Also a medal from the French for Normandy. In addition, he published a book titles "A Soldier and IBM Machines in World War II." It tells the important part that computers played in the war. In addition to his wife, he is survived by children: Carol DiMino, Norristown; John (wife Dorothy) DiMino, of Norristown; Robert (wife Tina) DiMino, Esq., of Garden City, NY; 5 grandchildren: Stephanie, John Carmen, John Robert, Gloria, and Dessie; and brother, Augustus (wife Frances) DiMino, of Chesterbrook., PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Antoinette Billela. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, June 3, 2011 from 9 - 10:30 am, at Holy Saviour Church, 407 E Main St., Ntn., PA. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 am. Interment St. Patrick's Cem, E. Norriton, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Montgomery Hospital Hospice, 1301 Powell St., Ntn., PA 19401.
