Mario J. Silvestrini, 88, of Norristown passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2025 at the Silver Springs Assisted Living Center. Born on April 19, 1936 in Philadelphia he was the son of the late Mariano & Stella Silvestrini.
Mario was a proud graduate of Conshohocken High School class of 1954. He was involved in many school organizations such as the band and chorus, as well as the district, and state band and chorus programs. After graduation he worked at Victory Metals. Mario then enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. On March 17, 1955, he shipped out for Boot Camp at Parris Island, SC.
Mario served in the United State Marine Corps for 25 years. For 12 years, he was stationed at Marine Barracks Washington DC, “8 th & I,” as a member of the Marine Corps Drum and Bugle Corps. He had many other duty stations including Okinawa,Japan and Camp Pendelton, CA. He earned the rank of First Sergeant before retiring from active duty. He then spent five years in the USMC Reserve.
Upon retirement from the Marine Corps, Mario moved to Brigantine, NJ where he was a resident for over 30 years. He worked for Caesars and Trump Taj Mahal. He was an active member of several organizations including the Cape Atlantic Detachment of the Marine Corps League, the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and the Veterans Association of America.
Mario relocated to the Norristown area in 2014. In his spare time, Mario loved fishing, enjoyed all types of music, but most of all cherished the time he was able to spend with his family. He was a loving, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend, to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be missed by many.
Mario is survived by his two loving children, Michael J. (Kelly) Silvestrini, and Karen (Michael) Vigoda; and three cherished grandchildren, Peter Silvestrini, Violet Silvestrini, and Mariah Vigoda. Mario is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Chester Silvestrini, John R. Silvestrini, Albert Silvestrini, Duillo “Knute” Silvestrini, Ann Piccirilli, and Gloria Mancini.
Family and friends are invited to call on Monday April 14, 2025from 9:30AM-11:00AM at the St. Francis of Assisi Church, 601 Buttonwood St. Norristown, PA 19401. A funeral mass will follow the calling time at 11:00AM. Full military honors will take place at the conclusion of the funeral mass. Burial will take place in the St. Matthew Cemetery, Conshohocken PA.
