Msgr. J. John Busco

Reverend Monsignor J. John Busco, Pastor Emeritus, Holy Saviour Parish, Norristown, died at Villa Saint Joseph, Darby, on Tuesday, November 8, 2011. Monsignor Busco was born on July 24, 1914, in Newfield, New Jersey. He is the son of the late Vincenzo Busco and the late Michelina Manzionna. Monsignor Busco attended Asa Packer Grade School, Easton, Shull Junior High School, Easton High School, and Saint Charles College, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. Monsignor Busco was ordained on May 18, 1940, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by His Eminence Dennis Cardinal Dougherty, and named Honorary Prelate to His Holiness Pope Paul VI on September 24, 1973. Monsignor Busco served as Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Pompeii Parish, Philadelphia; Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Bridgeport; and Saint Mary of Eternal Parish, Philadelphia. Monsignor Busco served as Pastor at Saint Mary of Eternal Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Donato Parish, Philadelphia; and Holy Saviour Parish, Norristown. In 1990, Monsignor Busco was named Pastor Emeritus, Holy Saviour Parish, Norristown. The Reception of the Body will be held at Holy Saviour Church, Norristown, on Monday, November 14, 2011, at 9:00 AM, followed by a viewing. In the absence of Archbishop Chaput, Most Reverend Robert P. Maginnis will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Monsignor Busco at Holy Saviour Church, Norristown, on Monday, November 14, 2011, at 11:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Most Reverend Louis A. DeSimone, Reverend Ferdinand Buccafurni, Reverend Michael C. DiIorio, Reverend Augustus C. Puleo, Reverend Monsignor Charles L. Sangermano, Reverend Monsignor Daniel J. Sullivan, and Reverend Bernard J. Taglianetti. Bishop DeSimone will be the homilist. Monsignor Busco is survived by 5 nieces and 1 nephew: Patricia (Richard) O'Hay, Margaret (Stanley) Chepolis, Rita (Edward) Granitz, Joan Tanzella, Margaret (William) Hoffert, and Joseph Lombardo. Interment will be at Saint Anthony Cemetery in Easton. Memorial contributions in Msgr. Busco's memory may be made to Holy Saviour Church, 407 E. Main St., Norristown, PA 19401.
