Reverend Augustus C. Puleo

Reverend Augustus C. Puleo, Director of the English & Spanish Language Program, Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary,Overbrook and former Pastor, Saint Patrick Parish, Norristown, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 3, 2024. Father Puleo was born on June 4,1953 in Norristown; he was the son of the late Louis J. & Anna E. Puleo.  

Father Puleo is survived by his sister, Catherine P. (Ronald) Strauss; one niece, Anita (Phillip) Kulan; and one nephew, Ronald J. Strauss; One great nephew Harrison Kulan, and one great niece, Adalyn Kulan. Father Puleo is also survived by many extended family members and dear friends.

Father Puleo attended Georgetown University where he would receive his B.A. and B.S. in Spanish.  He would later go on to attend Middlebury College where he would graduate with his Master’s Degree in Spanish & Linguistics.  Father Puleo would further his studies at the University of Pennsylvania where he received a Ph.D. in Spanish.  He would finalize his education at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, Overbrook where he would earn an M.Div. and M.A. in Theology.  

Prior to entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in 1999, Father Puleo held undergraduate and graduate teaching positions for twenty years at the following universities: La Universidad de Panama, Panama City; Drexel University, Philadelphia; The University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia; State University of New York, Buffalo; and Columbia University, New York.

Father Puleo was ordained on May 21, 2005, by His Eminence, Cardinal Justin Rigali.  Father Puleo served as the Parochial Vicar of Saint Martin of Tours Parish, Philadelphia from 2005-2008; and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Philadelphia from 2008-2011. In 2011 Father was appointed Pastor of his beloved Saint Patrick Parish, Norristown, which he served faithfully for eleven years and where he was known and loved by all. Father Puleo dedicated countless hours to his community as well as his parish and parishioners, and will be deeply missed by many. Most recently since September 2022, Father was assigned to Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, Overbrook.

Funeral arrangements for Father Puleo are as follows: The Reception of the Body will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 4:30PM, at Saint Patrick Church, 714 Dekalb Street, Norristown, PA 19401, followed by a viewing from 5:00 PM – 6:50PM. A Bilingual Parish Mass will follow at 7:00PM. On Friday April 12, 2024 a viewing will also be held beginning at 9:00AM –10:50AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00AM at the church.  Burial will take place immediately following in the Saint Patrick Cemetery, 2400 Dekalb Pike, East Norriton, PA.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Father Puleo’s memory to Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, 100 E.
