Richard Giannone Obituary

Richard J. Giannone, 85, of Royersford on Monday, March 26, 2012, at Pottstown Hospital. Born August 24, 1926 in Norristown, PA, he was the son of the late Theresa (Tancredi) and Richard Giannone, and husband of Geraldine (Russo) Giannone. Mr. Giannone was a graduate of the former NHS class of 1944, active in the following varsity sports: football, baseball and track; the Perky and Philadelphia baseball leagues. Employed for 15 yrs. with the Anna Catanese flower shop, self-employed with the Valley Forge Placement Co., a technical field employment company; he received the US Chamber scholarship for executive development at the Univ. of Delaware; the personnel director for Victory Metals, Westfield River Paper Co; recruiter rep for State Chamber of Commerce, and 14 year president of the Greater Valley Forge Chamber of Commerce; most recently employed with AVM Vending Co in sales and marketing. His many memberships included the Norristown Kiwanis, Past President 1985-86, and board; Norristown Jaycees board and honored with Distinguished Service Award and Man of the Year in 1982. Additionally honored by the Norristown FOP Distinguished Service Award 1986. In addition, Mr. Giannone was a lifelong Phillies fan and shared the love of the game with his entire family. Survivors include children: John (Chris) Giannone, of Valley Forge; Lynn (Dale) Carlson, of Seattle, WA; 4 grandchildren; and siblings: Theresa (Richard) Gower, of Farmington, MA; Annette Rubeo, of Schwenksville; and Shirley (Jim) Petaccio, of W. Norriton. He was preceded in death by a sister Carmella Burry. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, March 31, 2012 from 9 - 9:50 am, at the chapel of St. Ann Church, 3rd & Main Sts., Phoenixville, PA. His memorial Mass will follow at 10 am. Burial of his ashes will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Phoenixville, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to American Heart Assoc., 1 Penn Center @ Suburban Station, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
